Top 20 Hottest Nigerian Artists of 2014 | #10-6

We’re on day 3 of our countdown of the Top 20 Hottest Nigerian Artists of 2014. We’re officially into the top 10.

If you haven’t been following, you can catch up by checking out the post from the past 2 days, and see who made the list from 20 down to 11:

10. Patoranking

Reggae act, Patoranking has been around for while, grinding and putting in work, and this year it finally paid off big time. His 2013 single Alubarika with Timaya shot him up to the front screens, and his 2014 single Girlie O (original and remix with Tiwa Savage) made him a hit in mainstream music.

It didn’t stop there though, as he was a huge part of other big singles of the year, Emergency by WizzyPro and Murda by Seyi Shay, and dropped a few other singles and freestyles along the year, most notably, Bora.

It’s been a massive year for him, and his Headies Next Rated award nomination is very well deserved. He’s definitely a top 10 act of the 2014. No doubt.

9. Kcee

KCee 502

Kcee Mr Limpopo has had enough hot singles now that we can shed that “Mr Limpopo” tag off his name, or add “Mr Pull Over” and “Mr Fine Face” to it. He’s done well to prove to a lot of folks that his Limpopo hit was not a fluke and is maximizing his 2nd time in the limelight (after his stint with his group KC and Presh).

The impact of his 2013 singles Limpopo and Pull Over are still heavily felt in 2014. Just ask any DJ. He’s had a great 2 years accented with his album, “Take Over” which also saw singles Ogaranya, and Ogadinma. To add to his red hot catalog he dropped Fine Face which obviously is a ladies favorite. So much so that he did 2 videos for it.

All in all it’s hard to think 2014 nigerian music without thinking Kcee.

8. The Mavins

Yes it’s hard to put them as a recording unit, but when you have arguably the hottest single of the year in Dorobucci, and an almost as hot tune Adaobi we have to put you in as a unit. Plus they put out 2 other singles together (Looku Looku, and Arise), so really Mavins is a recording group.

The Mavins lead by Don Jazzy and including Dr SID, Tiwa Savage, D’Prince, Korede Bello, Dijo and Reekado Banks captured the whole nation with their infectious tune Dorobucci. The song spurn off several covers, and became something like a mainstream slang. The follow up single Adaobi though not as hot still is a solid single in its own right.

You can argue with this, but it was going to be extremely hard to exclude these cats as one the hottest in 2014.

7. Tiwa Savage

Tiwa Savage carried a lot of her momentum from her 2013 album release (Once Upon A Time) into 2014; more specifically her infectious tune, Eminado. But it doesn’t stop there… Who can forget the highly controversial video for her single, Wanted that got the internet having seizures for days.

She followed all that up with singles, My Darlin, Key To The City, and Love In Yellow. She’s also had a slew of features most notably Girlie O remix with Patoranking, and that’s not even counting her work with The Mavins.

All in all it’s been a great year for Tiwa Savage. From numerous awards, a great wedding, hit singles, and great videos, it’s been a year to remember for Tiwa Savage. We suspect there’s more to come in 2015.

6. WizKid

WizKid has had a very adventurous year to say the least. He’s had numerous singles, an album, Ayo, that didn’t sit well with critics despite its commercial success, and more drama than a soap opera.

But WizKid is still WizKid and he’s had a solid year with hit club singles Bombay, In My Bed, Show You My Money, Roll It Remix with Akon, One Question, On Top Your Matter and numerous features including floating his own imprint Star Boy.

From the list of tunes you can see that WizKid has enough club hits this year to last a solid hour of partying. His album did commercially well reaching #1 on iTunes chart, and despite his beef with Davido, Samklef and Saeon, he’s had a year a lot of people will remember… and for his music.

It’s at the tail end folks. That’s all for today folks. Be sure to check back tomorrow for the continuation (5-1).

Who do you think will be in the top 5?
