At least 68 people are feared dead, and over 100 injured in a deadly bomb blast at Kano Central Mosque near the Emir’s palace. Eye witnesses say the bomb went off as friday prayers were about to commence (approx 2pm) and caused a lot of pandemonium in its aftermath.
The imam of the mosque Sani Zahradeen was about to begin his sermon when the explosion happened, and reports also say there were gunmen around who fired shots into the crowd.
The area has been cordoned off by the police, and bodies have been carried to the local hospitals.
No details on who is responsible for this blast, but all suspicions lead to the deadly extremist sect, Boko Haram who have been waging a deadly campaign in the north east since 2009.
