The release date for the highly anticipated movie, Half of a Yellow Sun(HOAYS) has been postponed to a later date. The movie was set to be released in cinemas across Nigeria today, but there has been a delay from the certification and censor board.
According to a statement from a spokesperson he said “We appreciate everybody that has shown any form of concern to what has been tagged the biggest movie from Africa, we assure you that the movie will be worth the wait.”
The $10million movie has made history as the first African movie to get international release dates in countries like the UK, US, Australia, Portugal, Middle East and New Zealand. It is also the first Nigerian movie to be premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in Canada. It is already showing in UK.
Half Of A Yellow Sun movie is an adaptation of Chimamanda Adiche’s bestselling and award winning novel of same title. It stars OSCAR nominee and BAFTA award winner Chiwetel Ejiofor, Thandie Newton, Onyeka Onwenu, Genevieve Nnaji, OC Ukeje, Anika Noni Rose, Joseph Mawle, John Boyega, Wale Ojo, Tina Mba, Zack Orji and Hakeem Kae-Kazim.
It was directed by UK-based Nigerian playwright Biyi Bandele and was produced by winner of an OSCAR and three BAFTAs Andrea Calderwood and Yewande Sadiku , an investment banker.
