The lid has now been blown off the leaked photos of Mikel Obi and Genevieve and their upcoming movie project titled, The Journey.

Following the premiere at the AMVCA last night, of a new Amstel Malta TVC featuring both Nigerian superstars, Genevieve has now confirmed she’s been made an ambassador for the low sugar malt drink.

Sources say the deal was sealed earlier this year, with the initial campaign themed around inspirational journey to success stories.

The TVC, which was aired during the star-studded AMVCAs, highlights the individual career journey of both stars, ending at a point of triumph.

No word yet on how much they were paid or how long the deal will last for.

Mikel was not present at the awards but Genevieve, who presented an award with OC Ukeje, spoke with Amstel Malta red carpet host Vixen on her own journey to success and how she hopes this project will help young Nigerians make the best of their own journeys.

“It’s been a fantastic night and I’m delighted with Amstel Malta’s efforts in celebrating our own with the world”.

“I am very excited about the opportunity this platform gives me to inspire the youths and will definitely do my best to support this noble cause.” she concluded.

Nigeria’s leading malt brand Amstel Malta has launched its new campaign with the premiere of the long awaited inspirational “film” The Journey with superstar actress Genevieve Nnaji and iconic footballer John Mikel Obi as lead acts.

This project is in line with the brand’s commitment to helping young Nigerians be the best they can be.

The commercial, which was premiered at the second edition of Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards, took place on Saturday, the 8th of March 2014 in Lagos with Amstel Malta as the event’s official sponsor. The unveiling of “The Journey” was one of the high points of the event.

Mikel and Genevieve star in the Nollywood-style clip, portraying the odyssey of their rise to national and global acclaim – the humble beginnings, the struggles through uncertainty, initial breaks and major breakthroughs.

No details yet on the particulars of the deal, but it is confirmed both stars will feature prominently in Amstel Malta campaigns for the next few years.

“It’s a message to young Nigerians” says Amstel Malta brand manager Hannatu Ageni-Yusuf. “A message of hope, of resilience, of ambition and the power of possibilities.

The new brand ambassadors and co- stars, Genevieve and Mikel, confirmed they’re excited to be part of a project that encourages and inspires young Nigerians.

“It’s a honour to be a part of this” says Genevieve who has risen through many hurdles to become one of the greatest actresses from Africa. She became the first Nigerian actress to be profiled on the Oprah Winfrey Show and is acknowledged globally as one of Nollywood’s leading ladies of all time.

Mikel Obi also emphasized how glad he is to be a part of the project. “I’m very happy to have an opportunity like this to inspire young Nigerians to be the best they can be. Life is not always a bed of roses, so we all have to learn to make the most of it even in the midst of the struggles that we might face” he said.

According to Ageni-Yusuf, “The campaign will also include a multi-platform series that’ll tell the journey to success stories of some of today’s most inspiring Nigerian figures”.

Saturday night, the most anticipated event of the year, Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards, sponsored by Amstel Malta stunned guests with a spectacular presentation of the best of African actors and actresses interspersed with pulsating music performances from Alternative Soul Singer Bez, popular highlife artiste Flavour, Davido, Cobhams and Waje

The awards show took place at the Eko Hotel Convention Centre, Victoria Island on Saturday, the 8th of March 2014.

A glamorous red carpet, which stretched for miles, was graced with Nollywood and African Movie celebrities such as Amstel Malta ambassador Genevieve Nnaji, Funke Akindele, Desmond Elliot, Uche Jombo, Majid Micheal, Rita Dominic, Shirley Frimpong, Mohammed Zain, Jackie Appiah, Hertey Owusu, and other movie celebrities.

Visibly excited winners, who came out looking extremely glamorous, expressed delight over their awards with many expressing gratitude to the brand for giving them an opportunity to be celebrated by the world.

Osita Iheme’s passionate declaration as he stood on the stage to receive his award as winner of the Best Actor in Comedy received a resounding ovation from guests “I’m very grateful to everyone who voted for me, and made this a reality. Very special thanks to all the organisers, for giving us something to look forward to.

“I would like to urge movie producers to use their movies as a voice to fight the vices in our country. It’s time to make a change; let’s do our part to make a change,” he emphasised.

Some of the other winners include: Desmond Elliot (Best Supporting Actor in a Drama); Funke Akindele (Best Actress in a comedy); Tope Tedela (Best Actor in a Drama; Osita Iheme (Best Actor in a comedy); Rita Dominic (New Era Award) amongst others.

High point of the evening was the surprise unveiling of the new Amstel Malta TV commercial, The Journey, featuring Genevieve and Mikel Obi.

The new TV commercial is based on the superstars’ journey to success; their struggle to chart a path in their careers, their challenges, their victories and the glory of where they are now which was inspired by Amstel Malta’s strong commitment to bringing out the best in young Nigerians.
