Reports are coming out of Maiduguri that the islamic extremist group Boko Haram on Monday morning attacked the international airport and various parts of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital prompting the military to immediately impose a 24 hour curfew on the Borno capital. Witnesses say over 300 men attacked the state capital from all angles
Unconfirmed reports say a plane was burnt down at the airport. The aviation spokesperson Yakubu Datti, could not be reached to confirm the attack. The causalities are still unconfirmed as of right now but there are reports of a few dozens being killed.
This will make this the first attack in recent months to be launched in Maiduguri as there was a general feeling that the Military had started containing them and restricting their attacks to neighboring communities to the Borno capital. Borno State has been in a state of emergency since May.
Telephone networks have been turned off in Borno since the emergency rule was declared in May, making communication with residents difficult.
