The United Sounds Of Africa Tour Diaries By Michael Ugwu, CEO of iRoking [Part 2 – Washington DC]

After an inspiring show in Atlanta, 2face and crew moved onto Washington DC. This was a full line-up of artists excited to wow and do their thing for DC…. And DC didn’t disappoint and came out to see their favourite Nigerian artists perform. iROKING was on hand to evangelise the gospel of African Music to all and sundry, getting out and about amongst the crowds as well as meeting up with some of our Facebook competition winners. DJ Don x also came by to show love – it was alllll good.

The recently renovated Howard theatre is a pretty classy DC venue and, on cue, the show started… Here’s a super-quick round up of the artists playing:

The ever popular and iROKING favourite Zewdy got the evening going. She put in a great performance with the crowd intoxicated by her. She is, without a shadow of a doubt, a young star in the making.

Samklef was next and he put on an electric performance, playing the keyboard for his track Suwe. Explained the meaning of Suwe to the audience which is throwback to those childhood days

Timi Dakolo – belted out some great songs. The crowd wanted him to get back on stage after his performance – they couldn’t get enough. Timi is a quintessential showman. His outfit matched the performance….one word – Pimping. What a guy.

Brymo – this guy can perform live. This was his performance in Washington and he showed them what was up. We caught up with him after and he was ecstatic and loving the crowds’ energy – there was an awesome buzz around him, you could literally feel the energy coming off the crowd, via him.

Jesse Jagz – the producer is always on point. Without a doubt he is Choc Boys’ finest. Red hair matched his slick performance and he clowned on stage almost throwing his hat into the crowd saying that the last time he threw his hat into the audience they threw it right back! Joker. He eventually gave it to a fan personally as opposed to throwing it. Lucky fan – something they’ll remember for a very long time.

Ice Prince – the boys spent most of the day in the mall checking out what Washington had to offer. A few shopping bags later and it was time to hit rehearsals. Panshak Zamani aka Ice Prince knows how to give a cold performance. Keeping it cool, he picked out a fan from the audience and serenaded her Choc Boys style to his track Juju. She nearly fainted with excitement. The crowd loved it.

J Martins – J chilled most of the day in the hotel, joining the gang later for rehearsals at the Howard theatre. The man is a born performer. Danced in the crowd, wowed a few DC chicks, did his thing. That’s all I need to say.

2Face – backstage it was all fun and games with 2baba pre-performance, trying on his fresh iROKING tee. He rocked it hard in the changing room. Mr iROKING was on point with some pre show cocktails for the boys which got everyone smiling, with his secret tour cocktail recipe. When it was showtime 2face didn’t disappoint as ever. He brought everyone on stage at the end. The full artist line up.

The guys shut Washington down and iROKING was proud to be a big part of it. The after party went down at Taste with EME boy Skales joining in the fun and games. The gang had bumped into UK singer Estelle in Club Babylon the night before, although unfortunately she couldn’t make it down for the show. She def missed out – it was a superb night.
