What A Year It Has Been For… WizKid

I mean this is obvious right?, for the good (mostly good) and the bad, Wizkid was the talk of the entire year and I do mean the entire year. The year saw him bring out the video for “Tease Me”, which some felt was too raunchy for a kid his age, but more were impressed by the singles that came forth from his debut album “Superstar”.

The launch of his album saw everybody from the great Tuface, to MI, to Basket mouth to fellow record label mates, Banky and Skales performing alongside the entertaining performer, with bigger names like Don Jazzy, First lady of Lagos State – Mrs Fashola and other notables in attendance. It was sold out and purported to be the best launch party for a new artist in Nigeria ever. Though I could not say what the album sales show, the reception of the album from listeners was and still is great with “pakuromo” and “love my baby” being two of the biggest hits on the album.

The awards have since rolled in, MTV European Music Awards, Channel O and the MOBO’s, becoming the youngest to ever win the prestigious award, and that’s just the international awards. Homeside, it was a sweep for the EME representer.

Speaking of performances, Wizkid was also at the Afrobeat festival in the UK and had ladies and men going crazy and I hear it was a sight to behold. He is also ending the year by headlining the ‘FAB Night Out” Event. His features continue to make every song he’s on even better and he seems to be person to call on to make your song a hit, just ask Bracket.

There is also the buzz that he has caught the attention of certain international artists and there might be a signing involved, especially after we heard Akon’s verse for the yet to be released “Don’t dull” remix. It has been a great year for Oluwa Weezy, such that negative rumours ranging from peddling drugs to being a father at a young age, was not enough to bring down the year for the young boy. He is definitely a star with very much more to accomplish and we believe that the greatness of the years to come, will match to the success of the year 2011 for the kid.
