2face started off this year on a high note with his international album, Unstoppable giving him that serious boost of energy going in from 2010 to 2011. Hits like Rain Drop, Implication, Be There, and Enter The Place were still blazing strong into 2011.
In 2011 2face unofficially got crowned the King of the new generation naija music. You couldn’t talk of naija music without talking of 2face Idibia and with that comes all the international attention available. His PR team went to work and 2face began appearing all over the international scene.
He appeared on BBC London, on CNN’s African Voices, and on BET twice (Monique & Welcome To America). If the world didn’t know of 2face before 2011, they sure know about him now.
It didn’t stop there as 2face was nominated in almost every award he was eligible for with the best being his nomination at the BET Awards. In addition he was nominated at the Channel O Awards, The Headies, NEA Awards, and many others. Did he win awards? Of course. It’s 2baba.
Performances is one aspect where 2face absolutely shines and that came in the dozens this year for him with the greatest highlight being 2face Live at o2 in London that completely sold out. In addition he headlined the MTV Live Concert series along with Fally Ipupa & J-Martins, and bunch of shows all over the world.
The magazines also showed 2face some as he appeared on the cover of high profile magazines YNaija & Complete Fashion.
It’s been an absolutely splendid year for 2face and probably the most important thing that happened this year for 2baba is the amount of respect he got from his peers. It was wonderful to hear, see and feel all the positivity and love shown to 2face from his peers. There was no doubt in anyone’s mind that 2face this year was what every artists strives to be, both in longevity and in the ability to appeal across generations.
This year it was written in stone without a doubt that 2face Idibia is indeed an icon.
