Introducing ‘Nonny’s List’ (nonnyslist.tumblr.com) an online fashion-photography journal dedicated to showcasing the stylish people of Nigeria (for now) and indexing trends related to Africans and African Americans.
Nonny’s List is the brainchild of Nonny Diana Chizea, a Freelance Creative Director and Photographer. Born in Lagos, Nigeria, Ms. Chizea was attended an international all-girls boarding school in Kent where she states “her passion for fashion developed.”
“There were nights when my mates and I spent reading fashion magazines from Nigeria, China, Hong Kong, England, Russia to name a few. It offered an escape from our green uniforms.”
Following a stint in Kent, Ms. Chizea enrolled at a Military school in Texas, which again she accredits to “providing the structure and disciplined shapes of jackets and bags.”
She would later obtain her first degree in History of Art and Dance in New York. During that time she interned at Women’s Wear Daily (WWD) and U.S. Harper’s Bazaar.
Ms. Chizea went on to complete a Master’s degree in Journalism and Television from the London College of Communication and has a certificate in Film Entertainment Marketing Strategies from the University of California at Los Angeles’ Extention program.
“I have travelled a lot in a short time and that has helped train my eye in terms of easily spotting what will be a fashion trend and fad.”
“Right now, Nigeria and Africa as a whole is having a fashion revolution and I want to be a part of it contributing my skills to the industry.”
Starting out in Lagos, ‘Nonny’s List’ aims to capture images of people who are dictating Nigerian / African fashion at its best. The list provides a platform that is user friendly by showing real people in Nigeria and beyond.
