Check out Ms. Dami Kalz, a UK based artist that shows some promise vocally, and could definitely make some buzz with some fine tuning amd growth. Love her sound, and I’m sure you will too.
Grace Oluwadamilola Kalejaye better known as Dami Kalz is a Nigerian born singer/songwriter who moved to the UK at the tender age of 11 with her family for a better education. Dami is currently studying for her Masters in Chemical Engineering at University of Leeds. She has always had a passion for music amongst other creative things such as acting, dancing, fashion and hair styling. By the age of 10 years old, she already knew where her heart lied, and would only think of one thing only and that was to sing. She joined her school choir back in Nigeria and they would perform at big occasional events, the most memorable being the Christmas carol service as she was given the opportunity to sing her first solo piece.
After moving to the UK, Dami further pursued her love for music and performing by taking up performing arts for GCSE. This enabled her to become even more creative as she started song-writing. She wrote her own songs for the school plays “Fantastic Mr. Fox” and “Romeo and Juliet” of which she would perform and everybody enjoyed. She also branched into acting, something she also finds pleasure in doing and has always taken a like to since she was young.
On starting her A-levels, she decided to form a gospel choir with one of her friends. The choir expanded to about 15 people and they would perform in the school assembly, open days, international evening etc. She is very proud to have co-founded something that is still ongoing and growing by the day. She is also a member of her church choir, always giving God the praise and thanking him for the precious gift he has given to her.
The real journey however began when she started at the University of Leeds. She had it in mind to follow her dreams of singing hoping that one day it would come true. She joined the Afro-Caribbean Society of which she was an active member and suddenly things started to fit into place. She gained popularity as a good singer after she joined the Afro-Caribbean Society choir and through her dedication and commitment she began performing on her own. She has taking part in several performances with the choir such as ACS cultural shows, Living Hope Church Christmas concert which aired on Revelation TV, carol services, conferences etc. In addition to that she has performed in various venues including the O2 Arena in London, Universities such as Sheffield, Bradford and Leeds.
She aims to captivate the world with her unique style. On the international scene, she draws inspiration from the likes of Beyonce, Keyshia Cole, Brandy, Whitney Houston, Mary Mary, Yolanda Adams, Kierra Sheard, the list is endless and on the Nigerian scene she admires the likes of Asa, Tiwa Savage, Omawunmi just to name a few. She is a hard-working and focused girl constantly juggling her academics, hair business, church and singing career all because she knows what she wants in life and is determined to achieve her goals. She strongly believes in putting God at the forefront and with him, all things are possible; the sky is not the limit, it’s a starting point.
