Nigerian president Goodluck Jonathan has dropped his plan to suspend the national team.
The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the official announcement had not yet been made.
FIFA gave Nigeria until Monday evening to back off the suspension or face broader penalties.
A presidential spokesman announced last Wednesday that the team would be suspended for two years after Nigeria left the World Cup with just one point from three matches. Corruption allegations also have trailed the team.
